The Japanese car industry is one of the largest in the world. Up until 2008, Japan was the world's largest car manufacturer and only went down to 2nd in 2009 to the current leader China. With this abundance of cars and different manufacturers from Japan, knowing a Japanese car specialist will defiantly make choosing a Japanese manufactured car that little easier.

In the mid to late 1910's, Japanese companies began building their first cars. From the 1970's to the 1990's the Japanese car industry grew rapidly, both for worldwide export and domestic use. Annual vehicle production ranges from 8-10 million vehicle per year. Some of the largest and well known vehicle manufacturers are Japanese they include the likes of Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Subaru, Isuzu, Mazda, Suzuki and Mitsubishi. Japanese car manufacturers are known for producing affordable, popular and reliable cars for many years now and the car & automotive export industry is one of the country's most profitable industries with many of their vehicles being shipped to Europe and America. Due to this increase in demand, in 2008 Toyota became the world's largest car manufacturer, overtaking American owned General Motors.

The Japanese car manufacturer Nissan, in 2011 won the European Car of the Year and World Car or the Year with their Nissan Leaf model.
